This Thursday marked the second day of the Revival for the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year dubbed: The Anointing Within (John 7:38). King’s Praise set the atmosphere for the Holy Spirit’s move with the classic “Anointing Fall on me” and Ps. Bright Frimpong then mounted the dais to minister on the topic: The Spirit Within, taking his main scriptural reference from John 7:35-38.
Ps. Bright introduced his message by stating two of the greatest acts of all time done by God on earth that transcends the imagination of man (Acts 13:21). The first of these acts is that God who is Spirit (John 4:24), immortal and invisible became man, came down to earth and walked on earth. The great mystery of Godliness according to 1 Timothy 3:16 that Jesus dwelt among us as God in human flesh.
The second greatest thing God did was to give us the Holy Ghost. Ps. Bright added that it was not enough for a Christian to settle for his or her current level in Christ, since Biblical examples like Paul had numerous extraordinary encounters through the Holy Spirit. He admonished the church to have a strong desire for the Holy Spirit as the Deer pants for water, in these last days so the power of the Holy Spirit would be unleashed on us.
At the wedding feast at Cana in John 2, the best wine was reserved for the last hour, likewise, the best of God’s power has been reserved for the last days. Ps Bright continued that it is in these times that God is raising the body of Christ (the Church) as an army of men and He will equip us like the people of old to perform extraordinary feats by His Spirit (Isaiah 11:1). Ps. Bright went on to clear the misconception about the association of the Holy Spirit with only “Tongues speaking” and pointed out other key traits of the Holy Spirit in the totality of the Christian life as follows:
- The Holy Spirit quickens the flesh to do that which it is unable to do. (Romans 8:11)
- The Holy Spirit is the spirit of wisdom, might, knowledge, counsel and the fear of the Lord(Isaiah 11). As students these traits of the Spirit must be in operation wherever we find ourselves on campus.
- It is impossible to live life as a Christian without the Holy Spirit, since nobody can call Jesus Lord except by the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3)
- Prayer is a key material in the building and growth of the Christian life, thus the Holy Spirit plays a role in the growth of this life by helping us to pray effectively.(Romans 8:26, Jude 1).
- The Holy Spirit enables and quickens us to overcome sin (Romans 8:1)
Ps. Bright then ventured on into speaking about ‘the anointing.’ He stated that, we are the latter house of biblical prophecy and as the latter House, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost. In these end times God is building houses with our bodies that exceed the glory of Solomon’s temple which stood as the former house.
Anybody who accepts Christ Jesus as Lord and savior is born again and receives the Holy Spirit and thus, receives the anointing. This however is the first level of anointing.
Jesus Christ is the ‘Anointed one’ (Acts 10:38) and in him lives the Spirit and deity of God, accepting him implies we carry the ‘whole’ of God in us, hence out of our individual hearts where Jesus resides will flow a totality of virtues of the diverse operations of the Spirit.
The anointing in us is the same anointing that will work outside of us. Like Paul, we will speak not with mere words but with the demonstration of the spirit’s power, we would also turn the world upside down (Acts 17:6) and shake off poisonous snakes unharmed (Acts 28:3-6) by virtue of the anointing in us through Jesus Christ. Through Christ Jesus and the anointing he brings, marvelous signs will follow us.
As mentioned earlier, the first level of anointing comes with receiving Christ, the second level however is when Jesus who now resides in us, baptizes us in the Holy Ghost and with fire as prophesied in Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16. Jesus immerses our whole body, soul and spirit in the Holy Ghost and
dips us in fire. The Holy Ghost then takes over our whole bodies and causes us to be “walking holy Ghost men” who have been dipped in fire, have been transformed and have the power to impact others. It is important for us to walk in this consciousness and mix this knowledge with faith so that we may walk in its benefits otherwise we will not operate in the Spirit like we ought to.
The first level of anointing is the “well level or the ankle level” according to Ezekiel. The second level is what Jesus speaks about in John 7:38. The second level grants us the power to preach the gospel that would cut through the hearts of men and set captives free while setting our own selves free from bondage too. The Spirit of the Lord gives us the power to excel in our academics to effectively witness. The Holy Spirit also gives us wisdom and understanding.
The Holy Spirit can do everything and His power resides in those who have already received Christ.
May the power of the Holy Spirit be quickened in us!
