This is your weekly personality show where we are up close and personal with the body of PENSA-KNUST. Here’s an exclusive one-on-one interview with a gentleman from the Bible Studies Committee, relax, read and enjoy what he has to share with us.
Who is behind Mr. Koomson?
I am Koomson John Ato the last of 5 children. I am 22 years of age, born on the 13th of May. I live in Akosombo in the Eastern Region and I worship with PIWC, Akosombo. I am from Elmina, Central Region. I’m a final year student of Metallurgical Engineering. I was in Queens Hall in first year. I don’t talk much.
Share with us your experience in the second cycle institution.
I was in VRA complex number 1B. In my final year, I was given the mandate to serve in the capacity of a library prefect, I was also awarded as one of the best performing students. Mfantsipim is my alma mater. I don’t have much to say about SHS because I was most of the time reserved even though I was part of the choir.
Mr. Koomson, kindly tell us about your programme of study.
Metallurgical Engineering is an interesting programme. In a few words my description of this programme is the extraction of metals and how to use different properties to get the required structure which would enhance its performance. It is one of the most important fields because most engineering structures will require a metal to be used.
I won’t say I preferred KNUST over any other university but since they offered me my preferred programme of study, I jumped at the opportunity. Another influence to my decision was the fact that my elder brother was already here. And I haven’t regretted coming here.
How has life been on campus being in your final year?
KNUST is a big place where you can achieve whatever aim you have only if you are focused.
What do you have to say about PENSA-KNUST?
PENSA-KNUST is a very good place to unearth what is in you if you avail yourself and I believe involving yourself in the church activities would build you up for the future.
What can you say about the structure of PENSA-KNUST?
First of all, it is a very good one. Being close to both previous and present executives I have realized that the decisions they make for us are meant for our good.
Which committee do you belong to?
I’m a member of the Bible Study Committee and currently an assistant coordinator
Amongst all the committees, why Bible Study Committee?
Because the Lord told me to join.
What is your take on this year’s theme and focus?
There is this scripture I have loved personally, Acts 10:38 …it talks about Jesus going about doing good because the Holy Spirit was upon him. I believe as believers doing good should be one of our primary goals in every aspect of our lives; spiritually, physically and emotionally
About the Theme, I believe if we walk in the will of God we would be successful in all we do. It may not be easy or pleasant as the theme song goes but the end will always be glorious because God loves his children.
What is your favourite Bible verse?
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Especially the last part “apart from me you can do nothing“
Who is your favourite Bible character?
Apostle John and David
Which sporting activity do you enjoy? And any additional hobbies?
Playing football. I enjoy listening to audio Bible and music as well.
What is your vision and mission in life?
My vision is to see everyone who encountered me, enjoy eternal life.
How did you become born again?
In the year 2009, the month of October. I accepted Jesus Christ when I heard teachings about him.
Where do you want to see yourself in the next five years?
I’m trusting God to have at least a master’s degree in the next 5 years
Are you in a relationship?
What makes her attractive to you?
Because she’s a Christian and hardworking also.
What motivates you in life?
The Word of God.
Please do you have any testimony to share with us?
When I was in primary 6, I started feeling this headache, which later got me admitted to the hospital. I was discharged and later admitted again because of the same headache. A tumor developed and I was admitted to Korle Bu for a surgery. After the surgery, I woke up and I realized there was blackout in Korle Bu. It looked like the blackout occurred just after the surgery. I thank God so much for saving my life.
What has been the most memorable day in life?
Errm… I think the day I was water baptized, how I felt when I came out of the water was something else.
Any advice for the youth?
We shouldn’t be in a haste to get the luxuries in this world, we should just do what is expected of us at this age and at the right time we would enjoy the fruit of our labour.
What change do you want to see in PENSA- KNUST?
I believe the measures in PENSA-KNUST are very good for us
Your last words and any requests from the church.
I want the church to pray for me to serve the purpose of God for me in my generation. Finally I want to say that Jesus would come again and we have to really weigh eternity to a few years on earth and make right decisions.
Thank you very much for your time. God bless you.
My pleasure. God bless you too.
