Communion Sunday Service (Concurrent, Building Site) – “Proclaiming His Death” by Ps. Simon Peter Agyei

The Church of God was privileged to receive the ministration of Pastor Simon Peter Agyei on the theme, “Proclaiming His Death”. The main scripture references were 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Acts 17, Ezekiel 3:1-3 Revelations 10:9-11, John 6:53-58, John 1:14, John 7:63, 1 Corinthians 15:45

The man of God in his introductory message spoke to the people of God about the people of Corinth. The church in Corinth was established by Paul through his second missionary journey. While in Macedonia, he preached the word and got some converts, but because of the commotion surrounding his arrest, he was asked to leave the country, he explained. Paul then moves and ends up in Berea, preaching to men who were said to be of noble character. He then moves to Athens where he realizes that the people were idol worshippers. From Athens , he moves to Corinth, a city  full of idol worship.  There was a certain idol in this city called Aphrodite( goddess of fertility, prostitution and gross immorality). Because of the boom of night workers, a lot of sailors came there to ‘get the women’. Being ‘corinthianized’ became  a derogatory remark, he asserted.

A reading from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 revealed to the church three important phrases in the text;

  • Eating the Bread
  • Drinking the cup
  • Proclaiming His Death

Some churches believe that the body and blood of Christ is a sacrament. The sacrament of the bread and the blood is literally the body and blood of Christ to some churches. We however believe that the lord’s supper is an ordinance. A revelation of spiritual things and a typology of the things to come, the man of God asserted. Eating would mean we reading the bible, studying the word and applying the word. The bread of life is the word of God. The life is in the word. The reality is the Bible, the man of God preached.

Drinking the cup.

Here, the man of God likened the cup to the spirit. And so, when we talk about drinking the blood of Jesus, we talk about the spirit. And not the literal blood of the Lord. (Leviticus 17:1114( The spirit is in the blood).

Drinking the blood of Jesus means we are possessing the spirit of God and we do this through prayers.

Reading the bible without praying is like swallowing fufu without soup. Reading the bible alone will choke you. We are not spiritual beings but supernatural beings, he added.

The first Adam became a living being but the second Adam  became a life giving spirit. You only get this life giving spirit when you eat the bread and drink the cup. It is after this that you have the power to proclaim the lord’s death(Preaching, teaching, prophesying, inspiring people). If Satan reminds you of your sin, remind him of his future, the man of God preached. In proclaiming his death, we have a dual message;

  • Know that you are saved to serve the sacred and the secular. ( Do not go to the workplace and compound the corruption already there.
  • You are saved to save the secular world so that the secular can save the sacred.

May God Bless His Word
