God has been faithful. He has led the church successfully through another semester, crowning it all with a Lord’s Supper Service on 11th December, 2016. This was the very last Sunday service of the semester. Ministering to PENSA—KNUST on this special day was her beloved Travelling Secretary, Pastor Seth Asare Ofei Badu.
He ministered on the theme, “Standing Firm in Christ” with main scripture references from 1 Corinthians 13:13-16, Matthew 13:44 and 2 Corinthians 1:21.
By way of beginning, he acknowledged God for the peaceful elections Ghana has had and quickly continued with the sermon. He stated that the ministration was going to be about a 7-point outline. These, he said, were going to be based on the theme he paraphrased as, “Standing Firm in the Faith; How to do it” He challenged the congregation to figure out these seven points as the sermon proceeded.
Shortly after that, he taught a song which was going to carry the church to a different level altogether. It came with the lyrics:
Help me Jesus, make me steadfast in your work all of my days
Whenever the pleasures and lusts get in my way, remind me of your Word
You told me to daily take up my cross and follow you
I deny myself, I will follow you!
“When you stand firm in Christ, you grow into Christ,” he said as he proceeded with the sermon. Let us not be like the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians, who behaved like “adolescent Christians”. Their conducts always showed they were not mature, and at the same time, not babes either. For this reason, they quickly grew proud whenever God used them to perform any miracles. To stand firm, we rather need to place focus on God’s name, and not ourselves, because it is all about HIM; not us!
Also, to stand firm, we need to be alert because there are deceptions. They are in two forms: Following
Deceptive People and Self Deception. We can identify these deceptions and deal with them by three tests (all beginning with “S”). That is, the Scripture Test, The Spirit Test and The Servant-hood Test. (2 Corinthians 3:6, 1 John 4:1, Matthew 20:20-23)
So how exactly do we stand firm? And what are the seven points?
- We must be vigilant
- We must walk by faith and not by sight.
- We must be courageous and brave.
- We must be bold and strong
- We must hold our positions as sons in Christ Jesus.
- We must keep to our focus.
- We must do everything in Love
MAY GOD BLESS HIS WORD!
