Sunday Service – “Perfecting Holiness” BY Aps. Eric Nyamekye

Another eventful Sunday set the pace for brethren to fellowship together in unity, not forsaking the gathering of the saints. The introduction of the speaker alone gave the church an insight into what was going to be received and blessed to grace this occasion was no other person than an Apostle of the church, Aps. Eric Nyamekye.

The focus for the day was an exposition on the topic “Perfecting Holiness” which happened to be the theme for Pensa Knust this academic year.  Apostle Eric Nyamekye in his opening statement established that he was going to look at the topic through the lenses of the church’s theme: I am an example of Christ in my generation. His opening scriptures were 2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 Corinthians 4:16-17 and 2 Corinthians 11:1.

In 1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul admonished that “be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” This He said has two implications:

  • Jesus Christ is our standard: In this point He made a lot of exposition, where he said that the reason why Paul said we should be followers of Him was because He followed Christ, who was the perfect example. Continuing with this point he said that the ultimate purpose was for us to conform to the image of Jesus giving Romans 8:28-29 as reference scripture. Christ Jesus is truly our standard and in Romans 10:4 Christ Jesus is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. From here He said that everything of the Old Testament ends in Him, but the new still begins in Him.

Again He made an illustration from the mount of transfiguration where Moses and Elijah appeared in the presence of Jesus. Moses was the representation of the law and Elijah the prophets, yet the voice out of a cloud said “this is my beloved son, in whom am well pleased, listen to Him”. In this aspect He said the voice admonished us to listen to Jesus only which was a sign of our perfect example and standard. In the climax of this point he illustrated that the dove sitting on Jesus after His baptism signified how sensitive we are to be to the Holy Spirit, not to grieve Him.

  • We have the potential to be like Christ: Here, he said that we have been fashioned to be like Christ because as He is so are we in this world (1 John 4:19). In 2 Corinthians 5:17 He established that we have been created anew in Christ Jesus, created unto good works, not evil works.” It is a statement of fact” he said. Throwing more light on this point, He explained that in Ezekiel 36: 24-26 God hath given us a new heart of flesh to replace the heart of stone and also put His spirit in us causing us to walk according to His statutes thus the old spirit which is dead is the unbeliever adding that the standards of God are not difficult.

All of us here are holy because the spirit of God will not dwell in you if the vessel were not holy” is another thing the man of God puts across. He also puts the following scriptures across: 2 Peter 1:3, Jeremiah 18:5 where He still admonished us of who we are in Christ Jesus.  After this, he said that the church is supposed to put on the helmet of salvation to guard our mind, not forgetting ourselves or who we have become in Christ Jesus.

Getting to the climax of His sermon, Apostle Nyamekye who also happens to be the Youth Patron of the church of Pentecost gave an enlightment on 1 John 3:9 which he said many people find it difficult to interpret. In this scripture He said that the Christian cannot sin as the scripture already says because the seed of God remains in Him, with that seed being the life of God which is the eternal life.

In Ephesians 4:11-13, one of his closing scriptures He made the point that all the work of the fivefold ministry was to equip and perfect the saints till we all come to the unity of the faith unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. In his final scripture Matthew 13:33 he explained that the life in us is like the yeast and the rule of God in our life is the kingdom of God thus until the life of Christ is manifested in our bodies we have not reached our potential.

It was indeed a wonderful time in the presence of God, the church being the aroma of Christ was indeed blessed to be ministered unto by Apostle Eric Nyamekye after which he led the congregation in a time of prayer in what was a glorious atmosphere to be in.

HALLELUJAH TO JESUS!!!
