Welcome to your weekly personality show where we are up close and personal with the body of PENSA-KNUST. Today we meet a noble gentleman from the Evangelism Committee, relax, read and enjoy what he has to share with us.
Who is behind Mr. Joel?
My name is Joel Twumasi, a final year electrical engineering student, from Ejisu. I was born on the 9th of August 1994. I live at Abuakwa during vacations but on campus I’m at Ford Hostel. I am interested in computers, entrepreneurship and languages. I am an introvert but others think I’m an extrovert because of how I socialize with people. I am currently the assistant off-campus overseer. I am an affiliate of Independence Hall.
Share with us your experience in the second cycle institution
I attended Sekondi College in Takoradi. I was very happy on my first day at school, but became sad afterwards when our seniors started bullying and punishing us for things we never did. Four years in high school wasn’t easy at all, adapting to new conditions and environments. Breaking bounds was like a necessity since my housemaster always refused to grant permissions for exeats. But all I will say is that, God knew what he was doing in my life, and here I am now in KNUST. I was the organizer for Computer Club then.
I came to KNUST because I believe it is the best engineering institution in Ghana.
Mr. Joel, kindly tell us about your programme of study.
Electrical Engineering is a very broad field of study. But basically, it entails the generation, transmission and distribution of power. That is what others can relate to it since it’s broad enough to hit on every point.
How has campus been from first to final year?
Life on campus has not been smooth at all. During my first semester, I was constantly at sea for most of the lectures I attended and at a point, I felt that I could not pursue the programme. I had a zero in the first test I took and that was in my first lecture. Things begun to fall in place as the semester went by. Combining spiritual life and academics was very tough. I sometimes had to skip meetings just to finish assignments. Second year was the best year on campus since I saw a significant increase in my average and it was all by the grace of God. In my latter years, I’ve been able to adjust very well in relation to academics, spiritual and social life. My stay on campus has been by the grace of God.
What is your take on the structure of PENSA-KNUST?
PENSA-KNUST is not just a denomination but a big family where the potentials and gifts of individuals can be developed to help the denomination, the church and the nation as a whole. The structure of PENSA-KNUST is very solid. The committees in PENSA-KNUST form a good platform to help most of the PENSA students including me in developing both spiritual and social life.
Amongst all the committees, why Evangelism Committee?
As other committees are playing important roles to promote the kingdom of God, I chose to join the evangelism committee for the love I have for evangelism.
What is your take on this year’s theme and focus?
Walking In the Will of God: I think it’s a good theme because there is no Christianity outside the will of God. So as Christians, our priority is to walk in the will of God.
Abounding In Good Works: After Christ had fulfilled His ministry on earth, he was not remembered for only dying on the cross but also for His good works towards men; healing the sick etc. As imitators of Christ, we are obliged to also abound in good works as we walk in the will of God.
Which part of the Bible really speaks to you?
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (KJV)
Who is your favourite Bible character?
For the zeal one must have for the work of God, I think my favourite is Paul.
Which sporting activity do you enjoy and what do you enjoy doing during your leisure time?
I enjoy playing football. I like to read motivational and self-development books during my leisure time.
What is your vision and mission in life?
My vision is to make generational impact.
My mission is to empower the youth to fulfill their purpose on earth.
How did you become born again?
I was spoken to by a friend for several times until I was convicted by the Word.
What should we expect from you in the next 5 years?
In the next five years, I am going to be a network engineer, entrepreneur and a public speaker.
Are you in a relationship?
What is your take on dating on campus?
God created Eve after he had entrusted creation in the hands of Adam, so Adam had something doing before Eve came in. I believe no one should date until one’s purpose is known. One must understand that, anything that we build requires time and resources. Ladies need attention and attention requires time, so literally if you don’t have time you don’t enter into a relationship (dating). Also, if one is not spiritually, physically, mentally and financially stable, dating is one of the last things he or she should think about. I would advise that before one enters into a serious relationship, one has to know him or herself, his/her direction in life and also his/her partner before entering into a serious relationship.
What do you look out for in your future spouse?
The person should be God-fearing, respectful, not just a wife but a mother, supportive and she also has to know how to cook very well.
What’s your motivation in life?
My greatest motivation is a person: my mum. Also, to reach out to the hearts of many youths that are living their lives without purpose to live a meaningful life.
Please do you have any testimony to share with us?
God has revealed Himself to me as “the Provider” in my final year. Coming by school fees for my final year was very difficult, but God in his miraculous ways made it possible for me.
What improvement do you want to see in PENSA- KNUST?
Most of the members if not all must join committees.
What advice do you have for the youth?
The life of man does not belong to him and it is not for man to direct his own path, so without the directions of God we are lost. Let us keep God at the center of whatever we do and discover our purpose in life. Everything that we want in life, we can achieve it. It all depends on how bad we want it and what our priorities are. We should make good use of our time and plan for our future.
Thank you very much for your time. God bless you.
