Midweek Service – “Appraisal of Theme” BY Miss Ellen Chrislove Ofori

Help Share the Word

Appraisal means assessing in respect to some identified standards. Know the standard and the level you have attained in relation to the theme and based on that you can know your standard when it comes to perfecting holiness and standing firm in Christ. After the appraisal you should have gained some measures to improve upon yourself. These were the opening words of Miss Ofori last Wednesday.

She began the sermon with 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 and 2 Corinthians 7:1. We should separate ourselves from sin completely and we will become children of God and He will become our Father – she insinuated.

The promise of God is that He will dwell among us, He will be our God and we His people – 2 Corinthians 6:16. For this promise to materialize we must be totally separate from amongst them. God requires us to do this because He is Holy- 2 Corinthians 16:14-16.

We therefore treated Holiness and learnt that Holiness is total consecration from sin. There is no association between righteousness and uncleanliness. The manifestation of the righteousness of God is Holiness.

She further added that our holiness must be expressed outside for all to see. Christ died for us so there no longer remains an iota of sin in us. Apostle Nyamekye speaking on Perfecting Holiness made us understand that to perfect something there must be a deposit of that in the person and also we are the righteousness of God,  therefore if we nurture this seed of holiness we will perfect it.

The seed deposited in us must be guarded, so we treated little foxes where we learnt the vines (us) are attacked by little foxes, Songs of Solomon 2:15. These little foxes include bitterness,  wrath, anger, clamor, evil speaking and malice- Ephesians 4:31.

How Can We Perfect Holiness?

1 Corinthians 4:16-17 and 1 Corinthians 11:1.

Christ is the standard for imitating holiness. Also, there is a possibility to be holy despite current trends. Taking heed to the word of God we can imitate Christ. Psalm 119:9.

What have you been feeding your soul with? James 1:21. If you feed ourselves with the word of God our spirit will be in synchronization with the will of God.

Why must we perfect holiness?

1 John 4:17 1 Peter 1:15-16. From our study on The Believer’s Identity we learnt that just as Christ is holy so we must be holy. We are the representation of Christ on earth.

During our study on “Once saved forever saved”, we came to the understanding that when we accept Christ, our soul, spirit and body is saved and that when He appears we shall be like him. We must therefore perfect holiness to be like him by standing firm in Christ 2Corinthians 1:21.

When you are admonished to stand firm, it means there is an upcoming wind that has the potential to blow you off your feet. Winds of temptation, persecution,  false doctrine.  So stand firm, take a strong stand and gird yourself up. In such circumstances,  you have to consider your foundation material 1Corinthians 2:5. Do not stand on the wisdom of men. Your faith should be in the power of God. We should not be in Christ for material gains ; average increase, forgiveness and  provisions.

The sure solid foundation is Christ 1Corinthians 3:11, Matthew 7:24-27. We have to build on a consolidated foundational material and that’s a rock. A rock has the competency to sustain but there is a danger. There must be connection between the rock and the foundational material or there will be a slip. Just knowing about Christ is not enough.  If you get to know Christ for yourself, dig deep into him and you will stand firm.

How can we dig deep?

Psalm 1:1-3 Jeremiah 17:8.

1.Meditate on the word and you will be connected to him.

  1. Have faith in Christ 2 Corinthians 1:24. Faith is acting on a belief. Faith is not a matter of feeling but knowing. We must know our identity 1 Corinthians 6:11. Building ourselves up on the sound doctrines.

Apostle M.C Aseidu said a sound doctrine is a teaching that portrays Christ and contains vitals that can make you grow in Christ. So check the messages you feed yourself with. The message must preach salvation and follow after the pattern of Jesus Christ and the early Apostles. When we treated Maranatha we learnt that if you stand firm and perfect holiness we will have great boldness to appear before him.

How far have you come with Standing Firm in Christ and Perfecting Holiness or do you just respond to the call?

Standing firm is a lifetime business not a one year affair so with the hope of seeing him again lets purify ourselves and prefect holiness. Christ is the solid rock on which we stand all other rocks are sinking sand . God bless you.
