“Whether you like it or not, you will give an offering today!” These were the strong words of Elder Daniel Otchere, the speaker for the fundraising service dubbed: “My love Offering”, and truly after his powerful message we could not help but give our all.
The topic of his message was “Love Offering” and his main text was taken from Ephesians 5: 1-7. As part of his introduction he stated that Offering is one of the key elements in our Christian lives and it is a source of blessing. Offering began since the Old Testament times and it is mentioned severally in the Exodus.
He then admonished us as imitators of Christ to walk in love because God is love (1 John 4:7), Walk in light because God is light (1 John 1:5) and walk in truth because God is truth (1 John 5:6). Then, focusing on Ephesians 5:1-2 he continued on how Christ was motivated by love to give himself as an offering and a sacrifice to God. Thus, for you to give or offer yourself or something of value to someone else you must be motivated by something. Therefore, a “Love Offering” is an offering that is motivated by love.
Christ gave himself to honour and glorify God and not only to cleanse of our sins. As Christians we are to honour and glorify God by offering ourselves in conformity with what Christ has done according to Romans 12:1. We must also offer constant offerings to God because the only reason why we have grace and are alive presently is because Christ offered himself.
Just as Christ’s offering has an everlasting impact so will our offerings serve as a foundation for generations. Simply because Christ loved us and gave himself as offering, we have received many benefits. Some of these benefits include our free justification and the gift of grace (Romans 3:23-24), the acquisition of accolades and the gift of the mercy of God (1 Peter 2:9-10), and the fact that we are now joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). Another benefit he included was that we have the assured protection of God and are protected always. He recounted some amazing personal miracles of how God had protected him in times past.
Given all these benefits he stated that we had a responsibility and this responsibility was to give offerings to God because of his many benefits and the offering of Christ Jesus. Our offerings are very important to God because it shows we have regard for God’s deeds and operation in our lives (Psalm 28:5). Our Offerings also show that we recognize God’s hand in our lives (Ezra 7:28).
In His last words he encouraged us to give to God because of how He (God) gave us his son and gave us grace to be who we are today.
Let us Constantly give Offerings to God because he has given us his beloved son…
